As February went on we started to figure each other out a little better. Connor was taking lots of little naps (think 30 minutes) so I was still really tired and not able to catch up during the day.
These are some of my very favorite pictures of Connor from my maternity leave. Milk drunk smiles on the right. I really think he looks like Cecil at this age.
I don't think I knew newborns didn't cry real tears. He cried his first real tears on February 16th, at just under one month old. Can you even see them? Do I look like I'm torturing him?
Sweet cousin Zay. He always wanted to hold Connor (because Noah wanted to) but he was done after a minute or so. He just loves to play. But when Connor was upset, he was the best caregiver. He would find his pacifier and talk to him to soothe him. He is just a natural.
Russell, Marie, and Turner's story was on the news. We didn't know until right before and I got a few texts from people saying it was going to be on TV. What a crazy crazy time for these three. It makes me emotional to think of all they each went through. I'm thankful these obstacles made them a stronger family.
We had lots of slow mornings.
Connor's diaper sagging. hahahha
Connor started to be interested in watching things. We used this chair from Sara a lot! It was his babysitter while I showered and got ready myself for months.
Cecil worked out of town for a few days when Connor was 3 weeks old. We visited Nana in her rehab room in Prosper and then stayed the night in Van Alstyne with Mom (Dad was also out of town). It was kind of a last minute decision and I just had to stop and get diapers & wipes. Babies have so much stuff, but that night was a good reminder that at all he REALLY needed was me (and my milk), diapers, and wipes.
Snuggles with Grams
After staying with Mom that evening, we stopped and saw Nana again on our way home the next morning. Again, she just kept saying 'She is so precious,' but I think he really brightened her day. There is just nothing sweeter than a newborn.
Carlyn visited and sent me a text that meant more than she knew. I feel like Cecil is told he is such a great Dad all the time because fathers aren't expected to be as involved. And he definitely is a great Dad. But I think it is overlooked that I am actually doing the majority of the work because it is just expected. I love taking care of Connor and being a Mom, but a compliment is so nice to hear. I wish I had gotten a picture of Carlyn with Connor.
This is our nursing spot. Check out that amazing quilt Aunt Michelle made Connor. Soooo cozy.
I did watch lots of TV during maternity leave also. Connor was sweet to just sleep beside me. :) Check out those proportions. His torso is so long and his limbs are so short. His arms don't even reach over his head yet! How funny would an adult with baby proportions look?!? Hilarious.
Connor's famous rat tail!
In February I started to notice that Connor really favored his right side and he would always turn that way when he sleeps I wasn't sure what to try so I bought this hat thing that would force him to turn the other way. He did NOT like it! And it said to wear like 12 hours a day and not over night. What? That clearly was not going to happen. But please look how unhappy the baby with flathead is. hahahahha
No idea why it is on his left side here. Maybe I was sleep deprived and confused. It is possible.
The Grishams came to visit us and we got to play with baby Jack! Jack had recently gotten a helmet and we started to think we might have to go that route also. Noah and Zay love love love having three babies in their lives. We were just waiting for Turner Grace to get out of the hospital to join us.
I started to pump. It was slow at first, but definitely a became a big part of my life. Figuring out the pumping process was definitely a major part of my maternity leave.
I was basically plugged into the wall while I pumped so I was trying to figure out what to do with Connor while I pumped. Here he is watching me from his swing.
Here Connor is sleeping at my feet while I pump. We both loooved that he took a pacifier. It really soothed him and just sticking it in would make his eyelids heavy and help him fall asleep. It was just so helpful. At first, Cecil was completely against the pacifier, but when he saw how much it helped, he came on board. There really is a learning curve to parenting.
I specifically remember this day. I had tried and tried to get him to take a nap and when he finally was asleep in his crib. I couldn't help take a picture of those sweet hands. I hurried to my room to try to get a nap myself, but he was awake 15 minutes longer. Sigh.
We started the tradition of taking monthly pictures on Connor's elephant chair. Of course I think he is especially cute. I miss these days when he couldn't even roll. I was safe to leave him on most surfaces and not worry.
I'm pretty sure we took this photo to send to Daddy at work. Looks like I got a shower but no makeup. 1 for 2 was not bad!
When sleeping in our arms, Connor would often stretch his neck out like this. Of course, we thought it was absolutely precious.
We got a pretty good snow in February.
This is as close as Connor got to his first snow. It was still falling though at this point.
Another picture to send to Daddy at work. Looks like makeup, but not a shower. Again, 1 for 2 is was not bad.
More snuggles and sleep. February was a great month. Jenny told me to make sure I enjoyed it. I tried to keep in mind that it really is the only time I'll have to focus on one little baby all day. I'm sure by the other kids come along I'll be chasing after Connor.
