Connor's One Year Pictures

We took Connor's One Year pictures with Jen. I can't believe he is already one! For some reason he was in a mood (most likely confused by what on earth we were doing) and he wouldn't smile. He wasn't upset - just not throwing around any smiles. This seems to be a theme - he was in a similar mood in his 9 month pictures and at our Christmas mini session.

Like before, we were able to choose six pictures that we have the rights to and then can order copies of the other ones from her site.

First Jen had a little Valentine session set up. I had actually brought his valentine shirt that says "Heart Breaker" in hopes that we might get one good enough for a Valentine's Card.
I love love love how this turned out. It looks like he is ready to doll out those free kisses.
We definitely chose this as one of our picks.

One more where you can read his shirt.

Next, I took this CONNOR banner that I had strung up using the letter pennants I got from Hobby Lobby for $1 each. #score.

Cecil insisted on us choosing this one as one of our six. I'm not in love with it because he isn't smiling but Cecil thought it was super cute because it looks like Connor is posing. I do love those little knuckle dimples on his hand.

This is my favorite from the whole session. I had seen a picture with a baby in boots at a restaurant back when we celebrated my Nana's 95th birthday and I took note. These are Cecil's boots that I gave him for his birthday the year we got married. He loves them and I love seeing Connor in his Daddy's shoes. Of course I love each and every dimple in that booty and his sweet profile. I was actually to his right and he was looking up at me. I couldn't believe that we got him to stand, but I'm not sure he could have bent his knees if he had wanted to.

Next we headed outside and got a few pictures outdoors. This is where it got more tricky. He WOULD NOT sit on that silly box. Or sit still in general. He just wanted to crawl towards us.

We chose this one as one of our downloads and I think its pretty cute, but I haven't figured out how to print it yet because its so long.

When we got the pictures I scrolled through and LOLed at this one. Look at those chins!

This is one we chose

While Jen was getting her camera ready I was sitting with Connor on this bench and let him play in the leaves. She told me that it was cute and to get out of the shot. It ended up being one of my favorites of the whole session - an actual smile!

Looking back now, I don't love the shirtless bow tie look and should have said something. But he was NOT HAVING this sign and would knock it down the second I put it back up.

After this we brought out the smash cake and this is the part I was most looking forward to. Connor does love sweets (because duh!) so I wasn't sure what he would think of the mess, but I thought he would be at least into it and interested - possibly happy. haha
Yeah right, Mom!

So first we put him a little far away from the cake so that we could get some pictures of him with the birthday banner I made in the background and the pretty cake set up front. Well - no. He was full charge ahead - go boy!

He tasted it a little

Then he was like ickk

And lost. it. I mean he LOST IT.

I had my heart set on a naked booty icing smothered pic so we tried. But it just got worse. Poor guy. Cake is just so awful.

I carefully carried him to the sink and cleaned him up before we got him redressed and we all headed home. Goodness! That was the most stressful session we have had and I think it's just because he is on the move more. He didn't understand what we were doing and definitely didn't understand he should stay still and smile.

And for fun, here are a few behind the scene pictures.

I love this bench and wish some of these would have turned out well.

And the cake

We loved our experience with Jen and highly recommend her to anyone in Fort Worth looking for a photographer. Her passion is newborn pictures and we will definitely use her for our next one (whenever we are blessed with another -- no announcement here).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY! You keep us on our toes!

Connor's First Birthday

Connor turned one on January 21st and Cecil had had a crazy week at work so he wasn't able to stay to wake him up. As much as I didn't like it I took him to school (I know he doesn't know it was his birthday but I still would have preferred to be with him all day #momguilt).

I went in his room when he started stirring and he was just as happy as could be. I started singing Happy Birthday to him and he was even happier (and confused I think). I was all kinds of sick and losing my voice so you can imagine how great it sounded because I'm also tone deaf. haha

This second picture is one of my all-time favorites of him. Look how happy that smile is. He is just waking up and sleepy eyed, but it is also blury because he is on.the.go.

I wanted to fill his crib up with balloons, but promised Cecil I would wait until Saturday when he could be there. So I just gave him one balloon and he loved it!

I dressed him in his one shirt and took his last monthly picture.

On the way to school I had to stop and get gas. I just want to note how cheap gas is right now. It's a crazy industry, but thought it was note worthy on his birthday. I'm sure last year when he was born it was around $3.00.

I stopped at Burger Kind because #healthy and got Connor and myself a ham egg and cheese croissant for breakfast. I typically give him a bottle at home and then take him to school and feed him breakfast (banana, yogurt, breakfast croissant, etc) in a high chair before I leave. Since I started doing this it is much easier for me to get out the door than it was when I would just hand him over or set him on the floor to play.

At work I looked at how adorable his yearly pictures were and wrote his love letter.

After work I picked Noah & Zay up, we picked up Connor and met Leslie and Cecil for dinner at Texas Roadhouse.

Noah & Zay RUN into Connor's room when they go with me and I'm always scared they are going to railroad over another baby. haha
When I got to the classroom they were already singing happy birthday to him, had picked him up and had all the teachers laughing.

At dinner Leslie gave Connor his birthday card. Noah was proud of himself for picking it out and Connor was really into it and read it like a book before throwing it on the floor. haha
It says "HAPPY BIRHTDAY this is for you"
Inside: I picked it myself.
#boys

We have a long tradition of going to Texas ROLLhouse for birthdays and we wanted Connor to enjoy the full experience with the saddle and birthday song.

After dinner, when it was time the boys darted out of the table and loaded Connor onto the saddle.

I will say Connor was confused, but didn't complain. The waiter told us babies usually cry haha.
Connor just took it in stride and looked around at everyone.

After the song I gave him his cake that Leslie had picked up for me from Leah's Sweet Treats. We had a horrible reaction to his smash cake at his photo session so I was not sure what he would do with this one.

I was happy that he was into it! He looooved the sprinkles!!

I cut myself a piece and turned it so that I could see his damage. Light weight.

I cut him a piece of the cake and he continued on. Slowly.

We got a group picture (including Zay's crazy eyes)

We came home and put Connor to bed and thanked our lucky stars that he is ours. We love him so much.
