January we tried to slow down a little, get over our sicknesses, and celebrate Connor's first birthday. We watched lots of playoff football, and Connor worked on learning to feed himself more and stand on his own.
We all had Friday off for New Years Day and we hung out at the house and played with all the new toys Connor got for Christmas. You can tell I was a little slow to put up our Christmas decorations.
Connor kind of started changing his nap schedule. He wasn't ready to take his morning nap at the usual time and would hold off, but then some point during the day before his afternoon nap he would end up passed out. I'm pretty sure on New Years Day I was napping and woke up to find this scene on the couch. I think Cecil loves when he falls asleep with him on the couch.
Saturday we went to Cecil's sister's house to have a game night and celebrate their Granny's birthday. I *think* she turned 77. Connor is her 7th great grand-baby. She also already has two great-great grand-babies. Connor loved playing with all of Liam's toys, was cautious of Carter the dog and thankfully didn't discover the stairs until we were almost leaving. I was actually able to enjoy a couple games while he played by himself or was snuggled by Granny. It was a fun night!!
Aunt T had made us a huge spread of food and I wish I had gotten more pictures, but that just means I was too busy having fun to remember to take pictures! :)
Sunday we hung out and watched some playoff football at home. Connor discovered that he DOES (!!!) love his chair that Santa brought him. He loves climbing in it and putting his toys (blocks and balls) in it and then throwing them out of it. Right here he was snuggled up with the duck pillow and blanket Granny gave him for Christmas just watching football with us. Heaven!
PS: do you like how all his toys 'land' on his play mat?
Cecil is the sweetest Daddy and while I sat on the couch he made a 'tent' with Connor.
Monday and Tuesday I was home sick from work. I think I "caught some allergies" from Cecil's Dad at Christmas because Cecil, his Mom, and I all had the same symptoms. Connor moved up to the Toddler I class at school where they just take one long nap. I think he is ready and is actually getting more sleep (one 2 hour nap instead of two 30 minute naps), but it sure has wrecked our happy little schedule.
Well Connor's little evening nap messed up his bedtime routine so guess who was up past 10pm.
We face timed with Auntie Leslie.
Then Connor sat like a big boy in Daddy's seat on the couch and watched TV for about 5 seconds.
I started feeling a little better and went back to work for the rest of the week. In the evenings we played with Connor's #1 Christmas gift - his truck from his Daddy. He tried really hard to climb up in the back and I just knew it was impossible for him, but then he just kept trying and did it all by himself!! He was very happy!
Please ignore his pant less unbuttoned onesie ensemble. This was post diaper change and he was determined to get back in that truck!!
Friday I went to DryBar and got a blow-out during lunch. My favorite!
Friday we were going to go take the boys to Austin's basketball game, but Cecil wasn't feeling well and Zay had done something to get it taken away so I asked Noah what he wanted to do - just me and him. He said he really wanted to see the Star Wars movie so that's what we did. It had been awhile since we had a date and quality time is definitely his Love Language.
Leslie dropped him off at my office around 5:00 and I finished up some work while he colored a Star Wars picture I printed out for him with highlighters.
He colored one for me and one for Zay. On mine he wrote 'remember this time' so that I would always remember our special date. Isn't he a sweetheart?!!!
After I finished my work, we picked up Connor from school, dropped him off with Leslie and then headed to the theater in Colleyville that we really like. We made it just in time for the movie. About three quarters through the movie he turned to me and said 'I NEVER want to see this movie again!!!' haha I asked him if he wanted to leave, but he said no. It was the first Star Wars for both of us and we both thought it was just sad and long. Noah did find one character scary and had to hide his eyes when he was on the screen. I don't think either of us will be watching anymore Star Wars!
But we had a fun night and picked up Ice Cream for Leslie, Zay (and a tiny bit for Connor) from Braum's on our way home.
Later, I asked Zay if he wanted me to take him to do something just me and him and he said he wanted to do laser tag....with Noah. haha So basically Zay just wants a ride from me.
Leslie got Cecil this sign that reads "Beaver Fever" from Bucees on her trip to Austin. He proudly hung it in our garage. Its a terrible picture, but I think he is pretty cute.
On Saturday I picked up Leslie and the boys and we all went to our childhood friend's house to celebrate her son's second birthday. It was adorable!!! Connor was obsessed with the playroom and even Noah and Zay couldn't stop playing with little H's toys.
This neighbor girl had a soft spot for Connor and told me she would babysit. I might have taken her up on the offer if we lived closer!!
We got a group picture of all the kiddos. We had the best time catching up with our sweet friends (and their husbands and parents). I'm so very thankful for these girls and their friendships.
We made a little detour and stopped by my Aunt Jackie's house to visit and see our Nana.
I know I've said it before but Connor William is named after my Nana's father - Aldridge William. She loves watching him play and he's getting lots busier and doesn't want to sit in her lap as much, but I love how much joy she gets from being around him.
Saturday evening I met up with a few friends that I grew up with in Dallas for Happy Hour. We spent a little time going through an old box of notes that I found from middle school.
It was ridiculous.
We had a great time catching up and remembering our childhood.
On Sunday Leslie text me this picture of the boys playing with their soccer goal Cecil's Dad gave them for Christmas. I just love cold sunny days. They are my favorite! I'm not sure, but I'm guessing I spent Sunday recovering from staying out way too late and watching some playoff football. lol
The following Tuesday DryBar was doing a promotion with free blowouts so you know I had to go get another one during lunch. I didn't wash my own hair for a week! My favorite!
Since Cecil and I both weren't feeling great we ate out a few times this particular week. Tuesday night we went to Fuzzy's and I had been wanting to allow Connor to feed himself more, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind. What a mess!! We had to clean him up enough to get in Cecil's truck.
Wednesday I tried to feed him some chicken, banana, and mandarin oranges at home. Can you believe he hates mandarin oranges? I was SHOCKED!
After dinner, this little 'Happy Camper' and I played with some of his new toys. He loooooves storing anything and everything in under the seat of his new chair. He also loves his basketball hoop - that's my boy!!
I still think he loves his truck most of all. He's very particular about wanting to tailgate down! It's funny to see him develop his own opinions and preferences.
I realized that I needed to start working on Connor's birthday party since it was just a little over a week away so I went to Hobby Lobby during lunch and got a few supplies. I saw these fabrics and snapped a picture. I'm hoping to have a girl some day and I just love these colors together. We all know I'm obsessed with Navy, but mixed with the mint and pinks - I love it!
Connor and I (and his Garth Brooks tee) met Cecil at Frijoles for dinner. I was so lucky because Cecil put Connor next to him in a booster and that meant that I was 'off duty' for dinner. #thankyou!
Connor thought he was big time reading his menu sideways.
Connor feed himself a little, but after awhile he decided he was going to sit back, prop his foot up, throw his arm over his Daddy's arm and let the food come to him.
This picture makes me laugh so hard.
After dinner, we went to Sams so that we could pick out Connor's cake together. We had planned on getting a double decker cake for Connor's birthday and letting the top be his smash cake, but somehow we were talked out of it by the sales lady?!? haha
We instead just ordered 30 cupcakes with white icing and sprinkles. Connor change of nap schedule continued to cramp our style and he LOST it anytime we stopped the cart.
Then a kid walked by and he was perfectly content and occupied. Then when he was out of sight, he LOST it again.
After putting Connor to bed, I spent some time on Connor's birthday banner #1 and a banner for the Teacher Lab at Leslie's school. #bannerqueen
I'll be back later in the week to wrap up our January posts.
Spoiler Alert: expect a few more banners. :)
